Fabio Marcaccini

My history

FABIO Marcaccini, Class '63

I started with the bike more than 30 years ago, motocross racing at regional level in 1980, then Region Trophy and, for five years, on track for several Italian championships, a couple of European Championship with the Official Italian team, so I raced from Imatra to the old city circuit of Brno.

From ‘87 to ‘92 five successive Paris-Dakar, a Rally of the Pharaohs, with all home-made and without mechanical motion in tow, these were the the heroic days of the Wild Team, when Dakar was really an adventure.
First year I was in Paris at the start, without a penny, and in the mud of the prologue I burned the TT 600 clutch, then I removed the lid, I broke a record in half two and overlapped the pieces to get the closed park, or I could tell you when I crossed Tenerè with the upper fork broken in two, linked by a ratchet strap lent me by the great Clay Regazzoni. And yet I could tell a 870 km stage where everybody was wrong way ... I do not ... after 500 km, while Orioli and Rahier were finally overtaking, I was exhausted ... In Agadez journalists looked for me... I was in a hut on the bike all apart, and they used to call it ‘the day off’
And at Dakar, 3 to 5 times, I got there too.

Then I also did bike tests for Bimota ... with the Mantra ... 10.000 km in a month ... I could not stand to go to Florence or Bologna for a coffee anymore.

Then racing time passed through so I started traveling by motorcycle, first trip Italy India ... 23.500 km ... I started from Rimini with Thomas...we had a quarrel in Iran and separated, then I met a Swiss rider, Tony, and I continued the journey for another two months with him ... In 2008 with the GS Adventure ‘Unstopable’ I went overland to Cape Town ... a long way down with sandwiches from home, with my friend Thomas again, and every time we leave together, then half trip destination we have rows and each goes his own way ... So I went down from Zanzibar alone ... And for three times something in bike broke out and for example in Kenya I disassembled and I loaded it in a Land Rover, in Zanzibar I waited spare parts for 10 days, in Namibia I ran 2000 km at 50 km speed per hour with the front wheel to pieces. ..

So a year and a half of work and reasoning about, here the Off Ride, if a BMW’s tester tries it his head explodes, it goes with God ... and especially you do not feel il when it’s gasoline full ... 34 liters as the original, except that here the weight is well distributed, air off and the oil at bottom center.

I could go on ... I’m 46 years ol d, in life I’m a designer, I create products that sometimes I patent and then I sell to companies or make product industrialization that customers ask me to, I designed scooters, bags that self drive, water spin bike or multitasking workstations.

I have a temper ... I live in the hills of Riccione, my office think-lab is two meters from home, but the great strength lies in my staff, people trusted and tested over time, some real geniuses of mechanics. Some years ago I discovered kite surfing, a nice way to travel in search of wind and waves, a nice mix of adrenaline. I find it hard to talk about myself, I like to do more, freely following instincts and passion ...
